Announcing a new name for this Association

Announcing a new name for this Association

A long-awaited step forward for this Association was announced in late May:  members voted in favor of a new name.  While the details of that name have yet to be finalized (see live announcement below), the broad strokes are for an Association Advancing Participatory Sciences. The final “s” in this string of words may be the most powerful - not the capital “S” that designates the scientific domain, but the small one that affirms a plurality of people and practices. We are, as stated in our most recent strategic plan, “... a member-driven organization that connects people from a wide…

C*Sci 2023 Plenary: What would it take to really share scientific power?

C*Sci 2023 Plenary: What would it take to really share scientific power?

Photo, "Vision to Reality," by Angela Clark What would it take to really share scientific power? C*Sci is people from inside and outside of professional science working together to do science and solve a problem people care about. We might be working on figuring out migration patterns for monarch butterflies, reducing pollution in our redlined neighborhood, or building ethical frameworks for emergent technology, but we all share a conviction – born out by our own experience – that this work is done more precisely, more fairly, and it will have more impact when we do it together. We also know,…

CC BY-NC-SA 4.0 Libraries, museums, and other 'third spaces' make great partners for citizen/community science projects and often serve as community hubs for project volunteers. Libraries are increasingly taking on the role of citizen science hubs by providing safe, free spaces to meet and learn, access to equipment, experts and data, and resources to help connect information and data to local action. In a single year, over 170 million registered users visited U.S. public libraries over 1.35 billion times giving libraries the potential to transform participatory research approaches and outcomes. How might your project harness the power of libraries…

Disciplinary scientists to share strategies for scientific success at C*Sci2023

Are you a researcher with an interest in citizen or community science (c*science) but aren't sure where to start? Or, are you well familiar with the opportunities and challenges of this kind of research and eager to share with others? [Image alt text: a view from above of a large conference center hall filled with people mingling around standing boards with printed conference posters.
