Registration for CAPS 2025 in Portland, Oregon will open in early 2025
Registration for the in-person event includes:
- Access to all main program activities T-Th
- Option to add on workshops, field-trips, and special meetings (subject to availability, some may have additional fees, take place T/F)
- Coffee breaks morning and mid-day
- Late afternoon receptions T-Th (drinks and snacks)
Globally equitable, reduced rate tickets, and other support options are available to reduce financial barriers to participation. See details and options below. Applications for fee waivers, offsets, and/or travel stipends should be submitted before 30 January 2025.

AAPS Members*: $400
Non-Members: $500
Registration rates will increase after May 19th, 2025 to $480 for members, $580 for non-members.

Members of ECSA and ACSA are eligible for discounted AAPS membership to enable access to event discounts. See relevant details from your Association.
Members of RICAP (the Ibero-American Association for Citizen and Participatory Sciences) and CitSciAfrica who are based in those parts of the world can register for this event at AAPS Member rates.
Registering for only one day of the event?
Main session day (T, W, or Th): $200 Member | $250 Non-member
Workshops/field trip only (T or F): $100 plus any session costs (register early, sessions may fill)
REDUCED RATE TICKET OPTIONS AND CRITERIA:
$240 Reduced Rate tickets are available for qualifying registrants, including:
- Students – to qualify, students will be required to upload verification of current enrollment (contact us for contingencies)
- K-12 Formal classroom teachers and educators in afterschool programs – educators will be asked to indicate school district and/or afterschool organization to qualify
- Retirees – those who advanced or continue to work in this field in an emeritus/retiree capacity (see Project Volunteers if your work in this field has solely been as a volunteer)
- Environmental Justice Practitioners and Indigenous Practitioners – please register at this rate if working on a career track in this field or if attendance is covered by a grant (if not on a career track or not covered by a grant, see support options below)
- Project Volunteers – for anyone whose sole role in this field is as a project volunteer, please register at this rate if attendance is covered by a grant or if able to accommodate the costs (if not covered by a grant or within personal capacity, see support options below)
Global Equity Pricing: $240
To facilitate globally equitable access to this event, registrants who are based in countries classified as the Global South by UNESCO are eligible to register at the reduced rate ticket price.
If you are based in the Global South and are in a financial position to register at the appropriate rate in full, please consider doing so to enable our ability to support other accessibility aspects of the event (e.g., translation services).

SUPPORT FOR REGISTRATION AND OTHER COSTS:
AAPS is committed to enabling equitable access to conference opportunities, and offers several options to enable attendance by those with financial barriers to registration or travel (listed below). This support relies on contributions from partners, supporters, and donors. If you would like to help support equitable participation options, please contact us at events(@)citizenscience.org.
TRAVEL FUNDS FOR 2025 ARE EXTREMELY LIMITED. Because these options are limited, please expand your search for support beyond those listed here. We would be glad to provide letters of justification in support of anyone applying for outside funding.
An application for any of the options below does not guarantee support – the need is greater than the pool of funds available. To help maximize the reach of these funds, please apply for and request only what you require. Keep in mind that you may already be eligible for low-cost registration rates without the need to apply (see both reduced rate options above and no-commitment waiver options below).

If you are a student or a career-path professional working in this field and need support to attend, consider volunteering to offset event registration costs. There are options for both a 50% discount and a full waiver, depending on need and the time commitment. In addition to cost offsets, volunteering is a great way to connect with other attendees, meet leaders in the field, and gain insights into the inner details of the program.
Volunteers must commit five or more hours to direct programmatic support during the on-site event (limited virtual roles may be available). Volunteer roles may have you supporting sessions, registration, posters, or other aspects of the event. The application allows you to express interest, but preferred roles and hours can’t be guaranteed.
A limited number of no-commitment registration waivers are available to those who contribute more to this field than they gain from conference attendance, and who do not have access to funds via grants or partner organizations. Fee waivers can be requested by:
Environmental Justice Practitioners and Indigenous Practitioners – you may be eligible if attending this event does not offer you any career benefit, and if your registration costs are not being covered by a grant (your own or a partner’s).
Project Volunteers – you may be eligible if your sole role in this field is as a volunteer with a project, if you are not working with a project or partner covering your participation on a grant, and if you are not in a financial position to register for the event.
Requesting these waivers is simple and involves a streamlined set of questions in the form to ensure we can reach you with registration waiver details. Note that these waivers are for registration only and we cannot guarantee travel support – if you are also requesting travel support, the form will ask additional questions.
Limited support is available for stipends to offset costs related to registration and/or travel for those otherwise unable to attend. To help us make the most of limited funds, please explore all other available sources of support and apply for only what you require. Awards are not guaranteed, and are not guaranteed to cover full expenses. Awards will range from $50 to a maximum of $1,500.
There are no restrictions on who can apply. Funds from different sources aim to increase attendance by (and therefore more support will be available for) individuals who are:
- students or individuals in early career stages, including:
- students from Historically Black Colleges and Universities and other Minority Serving Institutions,
- students or early career scientists and science communicators from groups underrepresented in STEM
- environmental and social justice practitioners who do not gain career benefits from attending this event
